Konsep Pendidikan Syaikh Muhammad Zainuddin Abdul Madjid Serta Kontribusinya Terhadap Modernisasi Pendidikan Islam

Islamic education in Indonesia has undergone modernisation since the early 20th century. One of the figures who led Islamic education in Indonesia into this phase of modernisation was Sheikh Muhammad Zainuddin Abdul Madjid. This study aims to analyse Sheikh Muhammad Zainuddin Abdul Madjid’s educational philosophy and his contribution to the modernisation of Islamic education in Indonesia. This study employs a descriptive qualitative approach using the library research method. The research findings indicate that Sheikh Muhammad Zainuddin Abdul Madjid’s educational concept is built upon three main pillars: the integration of religious and general knowledge through the reform of educational institutions; innovation in the curriculum and teaching methods; and the strengthening of character education and human resource development grounded in Islamic and national values. This concept contributes to the modernisation of Islamic education through the development of an integrative, adaptive and transformative education system without compromising Islamic identity. The novelty of this research lies in attempt to link the educational concepts of Sheikh Zainuddin Abdul Madjid with his contribution to the modernisation of Islamic education in Indonesia.
