Abstract

Multicultural education has become an important issue in the context of
education in the current era of globalization. This research aims to
investigate the role of multicultural education in shaping the character of
students (santri) in Pondok Pesantren Buntet. Through a qualitative
approach, data were collected through participant observation,
interviews, and analysis of relevant documents. The literature review
involved the concepts of multicultural education, the character of students
in the context of Islamic education, and the role of Islamic boarding
schools (pondok pesantren) in multicultural education. The results of the
study indicate that Pondok Pesantren Buntet implements a multicultural
approach through its curriculum, activities, and programs designed to
promote understanding, appreciation, and tolerance towards cultural and
religious diversity. The implementation of multicultural education in this
Islamic boarding school has a positive impact on the development of
students' character, including multicultural awareness, tolerance, and a
broader understanding of global society. This research contributes to the
understanding of the importance of multicultural education in shaping the
character of students in Islamic boarding schools and provides insights
for the development of curriculum and practices of multicultural education
in similar institutions.
